They say when you go for exchange, you learn and experience things which you don't in Singapore.
And I've got the first-hand of the meaning of that just now.
Being an exchange student, I'm overloading mods this sem, taking 6 modules worth of credits hence I have a kinda screwed time-table since I intend to keep Friday free.
So on tuesdays I have a 4-7pm lesson, followed by a 7-10pm lesson. (main point here is no lunch till 10!)
And so at 10pm, there was this heavy rain and the temperature was freezing. My woolly jacket did me no justice at all and suddenly, lightning struck and one of the cables near the group of us WENT ON FIRE. So we're all just staring and woahhh-ing then suddenly the fire caught up to a street lamp and it exploded. And so we screamed like mad kids. I have no idea how it happened but the lamp continued to explode for another three times and the entire area (including my school) had a blackout.
Okay let me describe the situation.
A huge group of us are attempting to flag cabs to go home in the bad and freezing weather but to no avail. So we were just at our school's main foyer waiting for cabs to turn in. My mexican friend attempted to call cabs but all the lines were engaged. It was dark (cause of the blackout) and flooding (cause of the drainage system) and cold (just because) and the lamp exploded and such.
Yes. But my school, being quite a technological school (its not called tecnologico de monterrey for nothing) had this entire back up system so the entire school was lit in the very dark neighborhood. Hahaha quite awesome I know.
Okay to cut things short, we decided to make it into the dark streets (in the cold rain w/o umbrella) to flag a cab and managed to get home in one piece. Host mom was super worried!
Hahahahah just wanna say that that was sucha huge experience that I guess I should document it down. Back to mexican life byeeee! :D
